I am a non-graduating senior at Iowa State University in pursuit of both a BFA in graphic design and BA in advertising. I am currently a URA, undergraduate research assistant, at ISU with the group DIRG. DIRG stands for Design Information Research Group. DIRG is dedicated to improving the lives of people through the application of design research from the diverse areas such as experience design, interior design, interface and web design, wayfinding design, information design and human interaction design. DIRG is involved with providing design research, human subject testing, ethnographic research, design prototyping and information design solutions.
This past summer I was a graphic design/advertising intern at a corporate office in Des Moines and I am currently looking for freelance opportunities while loving school and staying busy. I am involved with GDSA, graphic design student association and made dean's list fall 2010, spring 2011 and fall 2011. lots of ideas in my head after portfolio night…
Before my internship starts WEDNESDAY (wow, that came up fast!) I want to buy a nice, medium sized sketchbook with NORMAL paper. Perhaps the one with a grid so I can write straight. want to make sure to make a daily log of what I do, hours worked and have all sketches in one place. That way, in the future, I can look in a diary/book to see my whole summer! I also saw someone’s book at senior portfolio night tonight at ISU that did a cool design every so often (not sure how often) and made it into a book. Each design represented something that week or what he learned, I believe.
I’m sure I’ll be plenty busy because for some reason ISU thinks it’s a good idea to pile lots of assignments for you to do every week during the internship… but I really would love to look at the end of the summer at everything I was thinking, feeling and created over a whole summer.
It is impossible to work when you are constantly hacking up a lung.
On a positive note, I will have six pack abs by the end of this sickness. Until then, I’m always sore and in pain. C’MON SUMMER

Channel 4 - Product Management
This poster focuses on one of the departments that works within the Channel 4 building, thus being the Product Team. The image itself acts as a metaphor; the product team functions like a cog within a bigger mechanism, and in order for it to work successfully they need a collaborative input from all surrounding departments.
Things I want to accomplish this summer…
As a break from this infographic project that is seemingly unending, I wrote a list that is bound to grow and shrink drastically in the next month or two.
- First things first, get this stupid thing removed from my finger that constantly is sending shooting pains up my arm and hand.
- Be completely stress free for 5 days in California
- Immediately get rid of mass amounts of facebook friends
- Go to the zoo… multiple times
- stay the night in the zoo
- go fishing and boating…. A LOT
- stay the night at the Villisca Axe Murder House
- CWS games galore
- Show my ISU pal that will be in Omaha for the summer (and any others willing) how the Willadsen’s fish and shoot guns!
- Volunteer at the Omaha Arts Festival again
- Spend an afternoon in the Lauritzen Gardens
- Spend an entire day in the Joslyn Art Museum like I did when I was young
- Redo some projects and start exploring things my portfolio is missing (MORE LOGOS!)
- Create designs for new ULabz apps
- Learn as much as I can at my internship & work my ass off
- Volunteer for AIGA or an event if I can
- Learn how to relax and breathe a little through the stress of design
- Get engaged (kidding…………….. kind of.)
- Plan one of my best friend’s bachelorette party & write a wedding speech for it
- Get rid of all the clothes I always thought I would fit again, but honestly won’t (because, let’s be honest, I never want to be a double zero again…. ever.)
- Plan a really special something for my parent’s 25th anniversary
- Spend a lot of time with Craig before being separated again by a 3 hour drive for another year.
- Exercise again
- Get my soda habit down to 2 cans a day and water consumption up to a couple of bottles a day by the end of the summer
- Become a better person, inside and out.
- Conquer the fear of failing and build my confidence in life and within my work
